Catherine’s Personal Journey
I know first-hand that finding healthcare at home can be incredibly difficult. Both Dementia and Learning Difficulties are conditions I have grown up around and understood from an early age.
My grandfather has mixed Dementia (Vascular Dementia and Alzheimer’s disease). This is a heart breaking condition where the person loses all sense of themselves and the family are faced with watching a slow decline in cognitive ability, physical health and general well-being. My grandfather wishes to remain in his much loved home but now requires daily help outside of what the family can provide.
My father has Asperger’s syndrome, a form of Autism that affects a person’s social behaviour and ability to understand the environment around them. Learning to adapt our behaviour and methods of communication to suit his needs is still something we as a family have to work at daily.
Now I am a mother of three wonderful children and my teenage son is Autistic. He has complex and profound learning disabilities and entrenched Dyslexia and will need support for the rest of his life.
Through these personal experiences I know that understanding and navigating the health and social care system can be frustrating, emotional and often a long and laborious process. This has motivated me to do something about it. I have therefore made it my mission to create a high quality, client focused, personalised approach to care delivery that I am proud of.
Catherine’s Professional Journey
I am now embarking on my 3rd decade in Health and Social Care. I have climbed the professional ladder and have thoroughly enjoyed the process. Now I want to share my experience with my Clients and their families and support them by offering the best possible home care service available.
I have worked across the whole of the care sector with people of all ages and a whole spectrum of conditions including elderly care, Dementia, physical disabilities, brain and spinal injuries, mental health, neurological conditions, Learning Disabilities and palliative care.
I have acted as advocate for my Clients and pioneered for their individual causes. I am incredibly passionate about ensuring people get the support they deserve and always strive to deliver outstanding levels of service. My professional training has given me the knowledge and skills to support my caring and empathetic nature as well as my desire to ensure people to lead fulfilling and independent lives.
However, I have often felt disappointed and let down by other care providers or professionals working alongside me. I have at times been demoralised and disheartened by poor practice, misplaced morals and substandard levels of care and customer service.
I founded The Care Collection to bring about positive change and deliver a unique, carefully crafted collection of home care accessible to all.
